For more than five years, Stone Mountain Systems collaborated closely with the staff at Johnson Hall, Ganneston Construction, Archetype Architects, and other partners to transform the Johnson Hall Opera House from a gutted shell into a cutting-edge modern theater. The company expertly designed and installed all theatrical systems, including sound, theatrical and architectural lighting, projection and video, stage rigging, and curtains, ensuring a state-of-the-art performance venue.
Johnson Hall Opera House was committed to making exceptional sound a hallmark of the venue. To achieve this, Stone Mountain Systems designed the audio system around outstanding loudspeakers from d&b audiotechnik. Walters-Storyk Design Group played a pivotal role, consulting on the space's acoustics and collaborating with Stone Mountain Systems on the final system tuning, ensuring unparalleled audio quality.
The theatrical lighting systems were thoughtfully designed with moving head fixtures as the primary choice, enabling quick and seamless reconfiguration of the space. Conventional fixtures are installed in the front-of-house position, but these are easily accessible and reconfigurable thanks to a power hoist that lowers the lighting system for adjustment. Stone Mountain Systems also designed and installed the theater's rigging systems and curtains, including the main act curtain's motorized drawing machine. This feature, essential for the limited wing space, allows the technical crew to operate the curtain remotely.
With the primary theater located on the third floor and the lobby on the second, it was essential to create a system that seamlessly connects all three levels of the venue. Stone Mountain Systems designed a comprehensive audio and video distribution system that delivers a live feed from the third-floor theater to the second-floor lobby and the first floor. Additionally, a dedicated, integrated system was installed in the Green Room to support performers' needs. The first-floor theater also received upgrades, ensuring functionality and versatility throughout the entire building.
